An image which has really connected with audiences of all faiths and tastes, from progressive multifaith Jewish communities in the US to The Palestine Chronicle. since 2009. Many of my paintings are all about expanding the cultural metaphors we use in statecraft to find more options to heal and grow our relationships. I recently revisited this and other paintings in a October 2023 Studio Blog post which you can read here: https://www.carlgopal.com/blogs/rearview-mirror-2009angelsandpears . In this blog post I have pasted an interview I did with US Jewish progressive magazine Tikkun Magazine when I was their featured artist in 2011. If you haven’t watched A Star is Born, the 1954 Hollywood version, it may not make sense. The characters of Norman Maine and Esther Blodget/Vickie Lester become a metaphor (marriage) to analyse the complicated historical relationship between the US and Israel. The painting was published again in 2024 by The Australian Fabians Review: https://www.carlgopal.com/blogs/australianfabians-issue-6-2023?rq=Netanyahu.
