Giclée Prints

Giclée prints (pronounced 'jhee-clay') are museum grade archival digital prints. My printer uses advanced 2880dpi printing technology to apply archival Ultra Chrome pigment ink onto the finest art papers available. The quality of the detail and longevity on a giclee print is what gives them their archival qualities. If you are new to giclée prints, there is a lot of information available on the internet and many museums and art galleries sell giclée prints with explanatory notes. Feel free to email us for more information at any time.

Caring for your prints

Caring for your giclée print is not unlike caring for fine art photographs.

  • With proper care, your artwork can last for a very long time. Many artists and museums claim that giclée prints can last up to and beyond 200 years. Under perfect archival conditions this is true. I support an expectation of 75+ years and even longer with proper care. Below are some things you can do to extend the enjoyment of your giclée print as an investment.

  • Touching the paper or printed image with your fingers is not recommended as natural oils can damage your artwork over time. Your print is an original piece of art, and needs the same care. Using cotton or other suitable gloves (one pair is provided with your order) to lift up your print with your fingers using the non-printed white margins.

  • Cover your print with the acid-free tissue or glassine paper provided in the packaging if you are not planning to have it framed for some time.

  • Keep your print within moderate temperatures, lower humidity and it’s recommended to leave them in the protective packaging until you get them professionally framed which has the effect of helping to seal them from the elements.

  • Never try to clean your giclée print with a damp cloth, water or any solvents whatsoever. Just a clean light cloth or brush if it has been left in dust, but I don’t recommend you only take it out of the packaging to get it professionally framed.

A few other things

  • Every single print from carlgopal.com is approved by the artist and hand-signed.

  • Unless specified, all prints sized at approximately A2 or smaller are packaged flat rather than rolled. That may change for new editions if they are sized over A2 and up to A0 in the future. For customised gold leaf unique state prints, the artist’s preference is always to package it flat.

  • Unless specified, the same giclee printer is used for the entire edition.
