Season’s Greetings from under the shade of the Tree of Life. Thank you to all our health workers everywhere

The Tree of Life, acrylic on 6 sheets of paper (it’s big) 2000 (Private Collection)

Dear Friends. In these challenging times, may you find solace, strength & love in unlikely places & in abundance. This has been a very hard year, and it doesnt look like it will turn quickly in the direction we all hope for, but that does not mean that it will not turn. Just not on our timeline. Remember, we can only do our best with what we've got, however small & imperfect. Imagining hope is a big job. May your loving God, even your God-less God of whatever brings you peace and happiness, bless you & keep you safe . I am especially thankful, and wish fervently that governments everywhere prioritise the safety of our health care workers in war zones everywhere. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Medicines San Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders worldwide and all the amazing medical and emergency staff in our hospitals here in Australia.

“Well, we have a whole new year ahead of us. And wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be a little more gentle with each other, a little more loving, and have a little more empathy, and maybe, next year at this time we'd like each other a little more.”

Carl Gopalkrishnan (aka Gopal)

Over the past two decades, Carl Gopalkrishnan's artwork has garnered international recognition for its ability to forge meaningful connections between cultural narratives in art and literature and the complex dynamics driving international law, intervention, and global conflict. Carl transforms our familiar cultural artefacts into new myths. Through his art he opens a door for legal and military minds to explore the creative, subconscious, and emotional nuances underlying doctrines that shape war and peace.
