When I'm completing a series of work, I celebrate in an odd way. This is the t-shirt that I've worn for about 18 months (or this whole series of paintings) in my studio. I believe there is a splat of dry paint from every single painting on this. Eventually I take it off and start using it as a rag to smudge and daub paint on canvas, clean brushes, it gets so heavy with paint it turns into an artwork in itself. Some parts get used as patches on the jeans I've kept for the same period.
This week seems like a good time to close the theme of my last series and embark on a rest until the next bundle. It's been two and half years on this. I have a few small canvases to finish off but, it's time for a sabbatical:) I will contemplate the chansons des geste on very different landscapes of robotic flavours, but not until after a long rest of the paintbrush. Don't be surprised if my next series is about a dog called Fido. "Fido Eats; Fido Sleeps; Fido barks".... Ha!
