New Painting: Do General's Dream Of Electric Sheep?

What is this thing called love? Gopalkrishnan copyright 2012

The sub-text question in this painting is: "Does Petraeus dream of electric sheep?". But for every intelligent being, it is still, "What is this thing called love?"

The two recognizable figures are David H Petraeus and Jennifer Miro (of The Nuns). Obviously the head of the CIA doesn't collaborate in artistic explorations of how they spend their DARPA funding, but I want to thank Jennifer for sending me some great photos of herself from the US to work with.  It is about conception, of ideas, of monsters, of Messiahs. But also of love.

Jennifer in this painting represents something of the spirit of creative fucundity, creativity, sensuality, and above all, resistance to conventional love.  What new Messiah would not benefit from the DNA of Jennifer Miro?

I also used some of the carbon models from some papers that were refered to me by Rod Ruoff at The University of Texas' Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Materials Science and Engineering Program (thanks!). The pattern around the feotus comes from one of the papers they published, as I explored some of the post-humanist themes.  And of course, there's the synthetic genomic elements there. These new canvases are my foray into interpreting "religious art".

The painting is titled,...

What Is This Thing Called Love?
(from Cole Porter lyrics, 1929)

What is this thing called love
This funny thing called love?
Just who can solve its mystery?
Why should it make a fool of me?

I saw you there one wonderful day
You took my heart and threw it away
That's why I ask the Lord in heaven above
What is this thing called love?
